Tonya has been riding for nearly 20 years. She started riding at the age of 10, and has worked with many types of horses, from the young, green un-broke horse; to dressage schoolmasters.
Tonya has taught a wide variety of riders from beginners to children, teens and adults. She has a passion for helping riders improve their communication between them and horse.
Tonya also worked as a Barn Manager at a prestigious therapeutic Riding Center. She helped develop the feeding, exercise and training program for the therapy horses. She longed-lined horses during therapy sessions, as well as evaluated and trained new therapy horses. These horses were older, and required careful management to keep them fit, happy and healthy. Tonya is well educated in equine first aid, care and prevention, rehab, and nutrition.
She has a natural, balanced seat and gentle hands, with a good sense of feel. She believes in working with the horse, teaching them through praise and repetition. Tonya doesn’t believe yelling makes anyone a better rider, she is calm and clear with her instruction, and strives to keep every session fun and interesting.
